Playing Career
Alison Smith is the head tennis coach at Burton Tennis & Squash Club. Alison played professionally on the WTA Tour for 8 years achieving career high world rankings of 236 in singles and 188 in doubles. She played in Bulgaria, America, Poland, Holland, Algeria, Germany, England, Ireland, Switzerland, Belgium, France and Spain highlighting with an appearance at Wimbledon in 1994.
Coaching Career
Alison was CPO (county performance officer) for Staffordshire for 2 years, training high county juniors in a complete program including talent identification. Alison worked with development and performance players for Derbyshire County She was Head Coach of Duffield LTC for 5 years developing a complete training/competitive program for every standard of player. Nick Bridden - LTA Club Coach
Playing Career
Nick Bridden played at county club level for several years in Staffordshire and Derbyshire.
Coaching Career
Prior to 2005 Nick had been coaching various sports for different ages. In 2005 he qualified as a badminton coach and began working for East Staffordshire Borough Council. Jayne Cooper - LTA Club Coach
Playing Career
Jayne Cooper played at county level for several years in Derbyshire. She participated in the Over 35’s County Cup at Devonshire Park, Eastbourne. For several years she played first team club tennis in the highest division in Derbyshire.
Coaching Career
In 1995 Jayne set up a junior club at Ashbourne incorporating different standards of juniors. She was Club Coach at Duffield LTC for 2 years coaching groups and individuals from mini tennis to club performance. She was the Club Coach for Etwall TC in charge of all groups and levels. Duncan Coates - LTA UKCC Level 2
Playing Career
Duncan Coates started playing tennis at the age of 6 and has been attending training sessions at Burton Tennis & Squash Club since 2001. He plays in county tournaments and for the club in various county and local leagues managing to achieve 12th place in Staffordshire in the under 18’s in 2008.
Coaching Career
In 2007 Duncan obtained a Junior Sports Leaders Award. He went on in 2008 and passed the LTA Assistant Coach and the Community Coach Awards. Duncan has passed GCSE P.E. Specialising in tennis, badminton and hockey. He is currently taking A level P.E.. He has assisted in coaching groups since 2006. Duncan is also available to restring rackets at any time.
